Why Prepare?

Descriptions of why you would need preparedness is as follows:

Minor events vs Major Catastrophies

The lights went out last night in our home. Ok, so we won’t be able to use the computer, and what else.

1) No electricity?

In our home in Florida this would have also meant the water supply was cut off because we have a drilled well with a water pump and a water softener filter system that both need electrical power to supply the home. There is no manual system for that water well.

In my home in Nevada no electricity means the temperature of our  home is increasing to unhealthy proportions in our blistering summers.

2) No water supply?

With no electricity and no water, we have no heat, no air conditioning or ways to cook, no bathing or showering.

Let’s imagine this is a county wide situation. The absence of electricity to power the food market’s computerized cash registers and their massive refrigeration system has created a void of available food sources.

3) No Food Supply?

On a short term basis this is a minor inconvenience. On a major disaster long term scale this is a scary situation.

Long term disaster events such as hurricanes, severe damaging storms, fires, even freezing temperatures and possible civil unrest lead to changes in our comfort zones. The convenience of public utilities and water supply services may become interrupted and if the service systems are damaged the repairs can take days or even weeks depending on the extent of the repairs that need to be done.

Putting aside things for survival in a crisis is like adding a few dollars to a savings account. You never know when you are going to need it.

Make and use a preparedness plan. Hope you won’t ever need it. Thank your lucky stars that you did it when you do need to put your plan into action.

Preparedness keys are the predominant goals that need to be set and addressed with emergency survival planning. The most important starter keys are your 72 hour kit, a water supply, and gather your food storage items.

Build your emergency kit and proceed to collect your water and your food supplies as soon as you have decided this is something you want to bring into your life.
