With the weather being all out of whack in winter and the various extremes many of us have to face in order to get through it would help to know what climate changes we are facing.

There are certain terms that we must understand in order to NOT be caught off guard by changing weather patterns.

Knowing these terms ahead of time and plan accordingly is always good emergency management. Planning ahead turns a disaster into a plan of action.

Having an emergency radio on hand for events the power has gone out is good practice. Keep it where you can find it easily. You never know when it is going to come in handy. Make sure you replace the batteries in it from time to time so that you don’t have to fumble around when you need that radio the most!

Some of the terms we may hear on the emergency weather broadcasts may be found in the The Weather Channel’s Encyclopedia of Weather Terms. It is a great read.

Survivor…

I am a survivor. Not of catastrophe, but of choices and incidents that have occurred in my life.  These methods and explanations here come from life changing events that have brought me to the reasoning of Survival Recovery.

In the events of 911, my desire for preparedness was fueled by the fear I felt connected to so many in that awful day. I will add my journal notes from that event in time. That day, I dug and planted my first tomato plants.

I had grown up in a community that practiced these techniques and until this time I had not fully understood the practicality of applying them.

Over a course of time I had proceeded to plant and dig a garden to cope with the news casts and the terrible sadness surrounding this tragedy. I eventually will include the notes from that garden and how it helped me in a healing process and the understanding that came to me of the need to prepare and the idea that set forth certain actions and skill seeking.

We are in a turbulent society and an uncertain set of climate changes here on Mother Earth. It is my belief that not war but nature will be wrecking homes and lives more and more in each storm season that arrives.

Living in a hurricane zone showed me how precious our lives are. I was in Florida the day Andrew tore up our coastal side and devastated Homestead. I saw the damage dealt to Charleston, SC when Hurricane Hugo blew through that part of the country. These things are the some of the realities for preparedness!

Lives cannot be replaced but homes and goods can. By sticking to the belief that one can overcome the crisis they will face by preparing to do so, Survival Recovery becomes a way of life.
